This blog has been moved!

I had to give more than one option a shot, and I ended up over here. (http://portlandtovanuatuandbeyond.wordpress.com/)

Come say hello!

I figured I'd get one of these started so that we can create a record of our upcoming adventures as we go along, as well as open up another means for reaching out to everyone we care about. I enjoy using facebook to keep up with what my friends are reading/studying/interested in, as well as share what I'm in to, but I'm not much for sharing my life on there. Which brings us to this lovely blog, which I hope Peter will help me keep updated.

For those of you who don't know, Peter and I leave October 5th for Peace Corps staging, most likely in Los Angeles. Staging, as far as I can tell, consists of finishing up all the paperwork and tying up loose ends that pertain to leaving one's country for two years, as well as meeting the group of Peace Corps volunteers that will be flying to the islands with us. We are scheduled to fly out of wherever staging is and to Vanuatu in the Pacific Islands October 7th.

All of this will be preceded by a nice, loooong road trip starting mid-August. Our goal is to see as many people and as much of our country as we can before we go. I'll post an itinerary as the time approaches and we have a fairly accurate timeline laid out. Keep me posted of any moves or if you're not going to be home during that time period, and we'll work around it to see you anyway.

I know it is over 3 months before we leave, but I wanted to start this early so that we can A) plan our road trip, and B) get this blog thing nice and situated before we enter uncharted (by us) territory. There is a good chance that we will have very limited, slow, and intermittent access to internet in Vanuatu, particularly after the first 3 months of training. That said, I know we will cherish any and every connection to you all that we can make, and will make the most of this blog.

In the meantime, check back, subscribe, post comments and questions, and I'm sure things will pick up as we get closer to embarking on our roadtrip.

Thanks to every one of you who have been great influences in our lives. Without having so many supportive, motivating, inspiring, and encouraging people in our lives, neither of us would be where we are today.

Much love,

Nicci (and Peter)
